Gareth Southgate has today named his latest England squad – and there is a place for Tottenham right back Kieran Trippier after a strong end to the season.
The Three Lions take on Scotland and France next month, and Southgate will be hoping for positive results having beaten Lithuania 2-0 in their last outing back in March.

There are few real surprise in Southgate’s latest squad, but he has handed a first call-up to Tottenham Hotspur right back Kieran Trippier, having impressed of late.
A 2015 signing for Spurs from Burnley, Trippier has mostly served as cover for Kyle Walker during his time at White Hart Lane, but with six starts since April, Trippier has almost usurped Walker as first choice under Mauricio Pochettino.

With five assists in just six Premier League starts, Trippier has starred in limited playing time for Spurs, and with question marks over Walker’s long-term future at White Hart Lane, Trippier could be Tottenham’s first choice right back next season.
Now, Trippier has the chance to impress for England, and many Tottenham fans took to Twitter to pass on messages to the 26-year-old, congratulating him on his call up after an impressive end to the campaign.

Others took the opportunity to claim that Trippier is better than Walker, and if Walker leaves Spurs to go and sit on the bench elsewhere this summer, then Trippier will take his place in the England side at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Some even took the chance to praise Tottenham for landing such a bargain in Trippier back in 2015, when many Spurs fans wanted Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne instead, and rival fans mocked them for the signing of Trippier – yet now, he’s set to become an England international.
Do you think Trippier can become England’s first-choice right back?
