Tyrone Mings has posted on Instagram on Tuesday that Aston Villa fell ‘way below the high standards’ during their defeat against Tottenham on Sunday.
Villla went into the game on the back of two wins on the bounce, including picking up all three points at Old Trafford.
But even though Dean Smith’s men started in a positive vain, with their typical high press and winning the ball high up the pitch, it was an afternoon to forget for the visitors.
At one point, in the second half, Villa thought they might get something from the game when Ollie Watkins levelled the scores.
But that only lasted a few minutes, as Heung-Min Son was a thorn in Villa’s side throughout.
For Villa, it was a case of below-par performances throughout the pitch and not just a few individuals letting them down.
And, after the Instagram outage was resolved, Mings took to his social media to share his blunt thoughts on the weekend proceedings.
Villa’s £20 million man (BBC Sport) is now on international duty, alongside Watkins, who links up with England for the first time since his maiden call at the start of the year.
Watkins was named in England’s 33-man squad for Euro 2020, but when it was cut short, he missed out.
And now he has the chance to cement his place in the side and into Gareth Southgate’s long-term plans.
It’s obvious that he won’t dethrone Harry Kane, but another Villa favourite in Tammy Abraham has been called up, so it seems the duo will battle it out for that back-up spot.
