Charles Watts has claimed that Arsenal are being ‘very, very clever’ in hiding Emile Smith Rowe’s squad number amid rumours linking him away to Aston Villa, as he told his own YouTube channel.

In what has been one of the surprise transfer rumours of the summer, Arsenal have seen Aston Villa express serious interest in their talented star and submit a number of offers.

Those in the Arsenal boardroom want the 20-year-old, who had a breakthrough campaign last season, to sign a new deal instead.

Watts queried whether Arsenal will reveal Smith Rowe’s new squad number alongside him possibly penning down a new deal with the club.

“We still haven’t seen his squad number yet,” said Watts. “Arsenal have been very, very clever in all the photos that have come out about Smith Rowe, even a couple of them up in Scotland.

“At the moment, they are just not showing that squad number that is on his vest and training gear.

“We will wait and see what Emile’s new squad number is. And hopefully, it might even be confirmed at the same time as his new contract for him.”

Whilst the Arsenal supporters are keen for the club to bring in fresh faces this summer, perhaps Smith Rowe signing a new deal will bring out the biggest smile on their faces.

Alongside Bukayo Saka, the duo are shining a light on this Arsenal team that has declined even further during these past few years.

If Arsenal are even to get back into Europe then the likes of Saka, Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli, Joe Willock and Kieran Tierney, to name a few, need to stay on board.
