The Elland Road side, preparing for the 2019-20 Championship season, will take on their fellow Yorkshire outfit on Wednesday night.
Ahead of his side’s pre-season friendly against Leeds United, York City manager Steve Watson has outlined his plans in terms of squad selection while also predicting how the Whites could line up against the Minstermen, as reported by the York Press.
The Elland Road outfit’s senior squad will face two fellow Yorkshire sides in quick succession, the first fixture against Watson’s side away at Bootham Crescent on Wednesday evening at 7pm BST and the second coming a day later (7:45pm BST) away at Guiseley.
“It’ll be great for both sets of players,” Watson is quoted by the York Press as saying. “Leeds have a game the day after so I think they’ll mix up some youth players and first-team players.
“It’ll be a tough test and we’ve got to remember who we’re playing and to get out of it what we need to get out of it. For us, we’ll probably do two 45s, two different teams, and get a game into everybody.”
After the local friendlies, Leeds will then fly out to Australia, where they will take on Manchester United in Perth on 17 July before facing A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers in New South Wales three days later, and then will take on Serie A side Cagliari in Italy on 27 July (Yorkshire Evening Post).
Meanwhile, York – who compete in the National League North – host League One outfit Bolton Wanderers on Sunday and will also face Hartlepool United and Notts County ahead of their first league fixture of the season, away at Altrincham on 3 August.
