Watford’s Stefano Okaka would be fine Wolves signing if he can recapture top form

Wolves want a striker in January and could target Stefano Okaka again after missing out in the summer.

Another day, another striker linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It is understood that the Championship pacesetters have their eyes set on a back-up forward to provide competition for Leo Bonatini. And, since the middle of November, Nicolai Jorgensen, Michal Krmencik, Lewis Grabban and now Derby County frontman Chris Martin have all been tipped to move to Molinuex.

And just three months after the Express and Star reported that Stefano Okaka turned down the chance to join Wolves from Watford on transfer deadline day, the powerful targetman is allegedly in the club’s sights once again.

According to The Mirror (6^th December, page 49), Okaka will leave Watford in the January transfer window after falling out of favour with manager Marco Silva, who has handed him just one minute of first-team football after scoring in the 3-3 opening day draw with Liverpool.

But while Okaka hasn’t exactly been the most clinical of forwards since he moved to Watford from Anderlecht for £10 million, according to The Sun, scoring just five times in the Premier League, he remains a striker with great potential who could be a huge threat if utilised correctly.

After all, it’s just three years since Okaka forced his way into Antonio Conte’s Italy squad, scoring the winner on his debut against Albania. The 28-year-old was hardly scoring goals for fun at Sampdoria during that time but his immense physical prowess and hold-up ability meant Conte believed he would be a useful weapon for one of world football’s biggest nations.

But if Okaka can rediscover the barnstorming displays that won over the Premier League winning Chelsea boss, Wolves fans could possibly overlook an average goalscoring tally in favour of the other attributes this old-school centre-forward would bring to the team.
