Watford star striker and captain Troy Deeney will be attending Sunday’s second city derby between Birmingham City and Aston Villa, and admitted to talkSPORT he’d love to represent the Blues in this fixture, as reported by the Hertfordshire Mercury.

The 28-year-old, who recently scored his 100th league goal in Watford colours, was born in Birmingham and has been a staunch supporter of the Blues from a young age, making Villa the sworn enemy.

The rivalry made Deeney’s three goals in two games against Villa last season even sweeter, with each goal celebrated with wild celebrations by the powerful striker, and the 28-year-old will be celebrating just as much if a woeful Birmingham side pick up a win against their rivals.

When asked about the fixture, Deeney told how he dreams of playing in that match with a Birmingham shirt on, though not for a few years yet, while also giving his input on the managerial situation at St Andrews, with the Blues sacking Deeney’s former manager Gianfranco Zola after a run of two wins in 22 games.

“I’d love to play in the Blues – Villa derby,” Deeney said to talkSPORT, as reported by the Hertfordshire Mercury. “I’d love to do that, but maybe a few years down the line.

“I’m actually going to the game [on Sunday]. Hopefully I’ll get to see Harry Redknapp and have a chat with him.

“I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes at Blues. I played for Gianfranco Zola at Watford so sad to see him not get a better crack at it, but it had to be done.”

Life at Watford is significant sweeter than life at Birmingham at this moment in time, with Deeney’s side 10th in the Premier League, while Birmingham are a world away from such lofty heights at present, with the Blues 20th in the Championship, just three points above the relegation zone.

The Blues have just hired former Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp however, with desperate times calling for desperate measures at St Andrews.
