Watford star Troy Deeney has made a bold claim about Newcastle United’s home ground St James’ Park.
Newcastle have made a good start to life back in the Premier League and sit ninth in the table after eight games.
Rafa Benitez has galvanised the club by sticking with the Magpies after their relegation from the top flight.
And supporters have been further enthused by news Mike Ashley has put the club up for sale after an unpopular spell as Newcastle owner.
And now Watford striker Troy Deeney has added to the feel good vibe on the Toon by singing the praises of the club and the stadium.
More often than not St James’ Park is full to its 52,000 capacity with loyal supporters.
And despite slipping down the ranks in terms of capacity over the last decade with Premier League clubs moving to new grounds, Deeney says nothing beats St James’ Park.
“Love the Toon,” Deeney said on Twitter when asked what he made of Newcastle’s start to the season.
“I think it’s probably the only ground in the country that’s still for the people do you agree?”
Deeney is not backward in coming forward with his views as Arsenal supporters will attest.
And the Hornets striker makes a salient point with the likes of the Emirates, the London Stadium, Wembley and other new and improved stadia not conducive to a raucous atmosphere like St James’.
