The Brazilian veteran is being linked with a move to Wolves.
Luisao
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ recent takeover by the Chines group Fosun has seen them linked with some big names in recent weeks.
One such name is Benfica defender Luisao.
Just five days ago The Sun reported that Luisao was in England to complete a move to the Molineux – after 13 years at Benfica.
The move was certainly eye-catching, considering the quality the veteran defender obviously possesses.
But some have argued that Luisao could struggle in the Championship, considering the style of play in English football’s second tier.
However, one Premier League keeper believes he will thrive. Watford stopper Heurelho Gomes, who himself previously played in Portugal, told Desporto that he will be a hit:
“The English football will be a great place for him, the Championship is a heavy competition, very heavy really, with 46 fixtures. But I’m sure he’ll arrive physically prepared, he always took care of himself and has a lot of experience. Luisao is a true phenomenon, both as a player and as a person.
Watford’s Heurelho Gomes looks dejected
“Wolverhampton have history and now have been getting a strong investment. Luisao certainly knows all that and must’ve thought: ‘I’ve done everything at Benfica, I’m the man here, but I want something different’. It’s a typical decision of a warrior.”
He also said that if he had a choice, Luisao would be joining him at Watford:
“But Luisao easily has a place in the Premier league. If he had spoken to me before, he wouldn’t have to go through the Championship, he’d have come directly to Watford.”
Luisao has been at Benfica since 2003 and has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s best central defenders during that time.
He also has 44-caps spanning a ten-year career with the Brazilian national team and Wolves will be bringing in something of a legend if they can tie up this deal.
