Celtic were looking to sign Philip Zinckernagel earlier this year, but came up short as Championship side Watford managed to sign him instead.

Zinckernagel was part of an outstanding front three at Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, alongside now-AC Milan winger Jens Petter Hauge and striker Kasper Junker.

With 35 goals and 36 assists in 89 games for Bodo/Glimt, Zinckernagel became a star – and interest was bound to come.

Watford signed Zinckernagel in January as his Bodo/Glimt deal expired, and he helped Watford win promotion with five assists in just 20 games.

In January, Zinckernagel claimed that Celtic wanted to sign him, but he eventually picked Watford for a move to England.

He has now expanded on those claims, suggesting that he joined Watford over Celtic because they are a ‘much bigger club’.

The Hornets will be playing Premier League football next season, so Zinckernagel is clearly feeling pretty confident at the moment.

Celtic fans weren’t happy though, pointing to their trophy history whilst asking who Zinckernagel even is, having yet to really make himself a fixture of the Watford side.

Watford supporters were absolutely loving it though, suggesting that Zinckernagel was speaking ‘nothing but facts’ as he ‘rattled’ Celtic fans with his comments.
