The Watford striker has been linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion.
Watford manager Javi Gracia has refused to confirm that Troy Deeney will still be at the club once the transfer window has closed.
Deeney has been linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion and Gracia, who was appointed as Watford manager last weekend following the dismissal of Marco Silva, has admitted that he is unaware of where the striker’s future lies.
As reported by the Birmingham Mail, Gracia said: “I don’t know.
“I don’t know what happens with players’ situations. Maybe one of them will go out. Maybe others go in. I don’t know.
“Troy Deeney didn’t train this week because he was ill and I don’t know what will happen in his future.”
It is clear that West Brom require a new striker as they battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League, but it is questionable whether Deeney, who has scored just twice this season, is the answer to their problems.
Deeney provides a physical presence up front and is an impressive penalty taker yet he often misses chances and isn’t a reliable performer.
West Brom have much work to do in order to preserve their Premier League status and their activity in the closing stages of the transfer window could go a long way towards determining whether they stay up.
Alan Pardew’s side have agreed to sign defender Ali Gabr on loan from Zamalek with an option to buy, as reported by Sky Sports, and there could be further arrivals at The Hawthorns before the closure of the transfer window.
