Alan Shearer has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:02pm, December 11, 2021) that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah deservedly got the penalty against Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings at Anfield.

Salah drew a foul from Villa central defender Mings midway through the second half in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Egypt international forward himself stepped up to take the spot kick.

And scored.

Liverpool won 1-0.

Verdict on Salah v Mings incident

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer analysed the incident on Match of the Day on BBC One on Saturday night.

And the BBC pundit believes that it was a foul.

Shearer said: “I just want to highlight. Watch what Salah does with his left foot there. He just steps across Mings, which is what you are told to do because defenders then are silly enough to make that challenge.”

Smart footballer

Salah is a very smart footballer who knows how to draw fouls from opposition players.

Villa fans will probably not agree with Shearer’s comments, but at the end of the day, a penalty was given.

In our opinion, Shearer is right.

It was a penalty.

Salah did not have a particularly great game against Villa, but the former Chelsea man got the job done for Liverpool.

The 29-year-old has scored 14 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier League so far this season.
