Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Aston Villa are potentially looking at Paulo Fonseca to replace the under-fire Dean Smith.
It has been over a week since Newcastle have been searching for their next manager and it seems Villa could join them if things continue to go downhill in B6.
The Daily Mail have claimed that the Midlands outfit have lined up Newcastle target Fonseca as someone who could replace Smith if things continue to go awry.
Villa have lost four games on the bounce in the Premier League, including a 4-1 defeat to West Ham last time out on home soil.
It now seems Smith is on borrowed time, with a trip to Southampton coming up on Friday and another defeat would send those rumours into overdrive.
Newcastle fans have offered a mixed reaction to these rumours and feel Fonseca, who is also seemingly being lined up by their new Saudi-led ownership, could head to Villa Park instead of St James’ Park.
Others feel the agent of the former Porto and Roma boss might be trying to work some PR magic.
One thing is for sure, Newcastle are looking for a new face and if Villa win at St Mary’s, then that will end talk of Smith’s future for now.
But if they lose, then those following weeks, heading into the international break, might just get very, very interesting.
So, if someone like Fonseca is still on high on Newcastle’s list, then they better do something about it now because the Toony Army faithful can’t wait any longer to bring in a new coach.
