The warning signs were there for Slaven Bilic over his decision to bring on hapless West Ham United flop Havard Nordtveit against Tottenham Hotspur.
Hapless Havard Nordtveit
When Slaven Bilic elected to inexplicably replace star Dimitri Payet with Havard Nordtveit when West Ham were 2-1 up at bitter rivals Tottenham, Hammers fans nearly went into meltdown.
And all their fears were realised in the most sickening way as the woeful defensive midfielder – who was released by Arsenal years ago presumably because Arsene Wenger could see he was not good enough for the English top flight – looked like a fish out of water as Spurs completely turned the game on its head to win 3-2 in his four minutes on the pitch.
Nordtveit gifted Spurs a game West Ham were winning
The Norwegian’s ridiculous decision to slide in on Tottenham’s Heung-min Son in the dying seconds and give away the match-winning penalty was one of the clumsiest challenges you will see all season.
Nordtveit, who has been held up by Hammers fans as a prime example of West Ham’s awful summer of cheap transfer business, has been totally out of his depth since signing on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Under pressure: Slaven Bilic
While every Hammers fan can see it, Bilic seemingly can’t and even training ground video captured in the build-up to the game was not enough to dissuade the former Croatia boss.

Nordtveit was a laughing stock in training leading up to the match when he clumsily fell during a routine drill which was captured on camera.
It had his West Ham teammates in stitches.
But they were not laughing in the changing room at White Hart Lane on Saturday night as that clumsiness was there for all to see when it mattered most in what was a huge game for the Hammers.
Nordtveit has been at fault for goals in nearly every appearance so far
Little incidents like this undoubtedly happen at training grounds up and down the country everyday.
But quite what Bilic was thinking bringing a player so lacking in ability, confidence and the attributes needed for Premier League football into such a huge game is beyond the comprehension of anyone connected with the club, particularly with trusty veteran James Collins sat kicking his heels on the bench.
