Stephen Kelly was the hero as Graeme Murty’s Rangers youngsters came from behind to beat Hibs 3-2.

Stephen Kelly of Rangers is seen during the Betfred Scottish League Cup Quarter Final match between Rangers and Ayr United on September 26, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Stephen Kelly scored the goal of the game as Rangers’ reserves came from two down to beat Hibernian on Monday.

Ryan Gauld and Oli Shaw put Hibs into a comfortable lead inside just 10 minutes but Graeme Murty’s side came roaring back in remarkable fashion. Glenn Middleton, who has impressed whenever he has been included in Steven Gerrard’s first team in recent months, netted a double but Kelly was the undisputed hero.

The 18-year-old midfielder won the game in spectacular style with just five minutes to go, and what a way to do it.

Standing 25 yards from goal, Kelly whipped a picture perfect free-kick into the corner of the Hibernian net. The Scotland U19 international was unsurprisingly thrilled to see all of his practice pay off in sensational style.

“Luckily it went in off the post and I am delighted with it,” Kelly told the club’s official website after the game.

Kelly will certainly benefit from playing alongside senior players like Lassana Coulibaly, Matt Polster and former Norwich winger Middleton, who all started against Hibs.

It remains to be seen whether he will be rewarded with a promotion to the first-team before the end of the season.
