Newcastle beat Celtic to the signing of 18-year-old wonderkid Garang Kuol back in September, and he has now been tipped to shine in Qatar.

It was Sky Sports who revealed that Ange Postecoglou wanted to sign the Australia international, who has risen to stardom at the Central Coast Mariners despite starting just a handful of first-team games.

Newcastle gem tipped to shine in Qatar

Well, it was the BBC‘s Vicki Sparks who told viewers to keep an eye on Kuol, who has done superbly well to even make the Australia squad given his lack of experience.

The teenager has scored four goals in his first seven appearances from the bench for the Central Coast Mariners, and will officially move to Newcastle in January as reward for his excellent performances.

Writing in a World Cup feature piece for BBC Sport, Sparks put: “It’s already been quite a year for Garang Kuol. He made his senior debut last December, signed his first professional contract in June and, in September, agreed a deal to join Newcastle United in January.

“He was called into Australia’s World Cup squad before making his first start in the A-League but his stats as a substitute are just as spectacular as his progress during his fledgling career, with four goals coming in his first seven appearances off the bench for Central Coast Mariners. He is definitely a player to watch out for in Qatar.”

In our view, Kuol is unlikely to start for the Socceroos in Qatar, although that shouldn’t be an issue given how effective he has proven to be from the bench.

Even receiving slithers of game time could be enough for the Aussie to make a name for himself, on the basis of what we’ve seen so far.

Celtic must be envious of Newcastle

In our view, Celtic must be very jealous of Newcastle after the Magpies beat them to Kuol.

The teenage sensation looks set to become a star of the future – Sky Sports add that Barcelona were also interested – and he is exactly the type of forward who could’ve become a key player under Postecoglou in Glasgow.

Be sure to keep an eye on Kuol in Qatar throughout the World Cup, as he has the talent to be a real difference maker for Australia.
