Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is currently top of the Championship with Newcastle United.
Having been relegated from the Premier League last season, Rafael Benitez has been tasked with getting Newcastle United back into the top flight. The Spaniard is already loved on Tyneside for what he has done for the club, and they currently sit top of the Championship after 16 games.
Another group that will always have a special place in their hearts for Benitez is Liverpool fans, where he spent six years in charge. Benitez famously won the Champions League with the Reds in 2005, and is still held in a very high regard by the Anfield faithful.
So what do Liverpool fans think of their former manager’s exploits at Newcastle? HITC Sport’s Michael Ramsay went to find out.

The majority of Liverpool fans couldn’t speak highly enough of Benitez, and praised him for deciding to stay on as Newcastle boss following their relegation.
One fan said: “He’s shown some guts staying there, and hopefully it pays off for him.”

Many were shocked to see Benitez continue as Newcastle manager in the Championship, having spent most of his career battling at the top of the best leagues in the world, and for European honours.
Newcastle fans will be hoping Benitez can bring good times back to St James’ Park, and it’s fair to say that most Liverpool supporters are hoping to see their former man do well. The red part of Merseyside will be looking forward to welcoming Benitez back to Anfield next season if he does what is expected of him and gets Newcastle back to the Premier League.
