Rangers were linked with bringing Jermain Defoe in the summer.

Jermain Defoe of Bournemouth poses with the trophy for Carling Premier League Goal of the Month for December 2017 on January 11, 2018 in Bournemouth, England.

Rangers’ need for an extra striker has not changed since their summer interest in Jermain Defoe was reported.

Kyle Lafferty is a huge addition but their loan move for Umar Sadiq so far looks to be a bust and he is likely going to need replacing at Rangers when it hits January.

Returning for Defoe would be a smart move for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, who played alongside the striker for England.

Defoe remained at Bournemouth and is currently being wasted.

This season so far he has made just two Premier League appearances for a combined 13 minutes of football.

He was on the bench on Monday night, an unused substitute, as Bournemouth beat Crystal Palace 2-1.

Defoe is 35, and can’t afford to waste one of the twilight years of his career.

The Scottish Sun reported Rangers were favourites to sign Defoe in the summer, before the striker committed his future to Bournemouth.

His loyalty has not been repaid so far, considered a spare part at Bournemouth.

If Rangers decide to take a look and bring him to Ibrox, it could be a significant moment in the title race.
