Tony Adams has claimed that Hector Bellerin is a problem for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
Arteta’s side suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday night.
Raheem Sterling scored a first-half goal to consign Arsenal to their second defeat of the Premeir League season.
Since taking the job in North London, the Spaniard, who shadowed Pep Guardiola for four years, has cleaned up the Gunners’ defence in a big way, stamping out the sloppiness that crept in under Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery.
But there was a number of things that Arsenal could’ve done to prevent Sterling’s goal, but Bellerin, who let Phil Foden cut inside him just before the goal, was majorly culpable.
The 25-year-old defender blows hot and cold for the Emirates Stadium side and the club’s legendary centre-back has told Premier League productions that it’s a cause for concern for Arteta.
He said: “I think it’s time for a back four. I’ve been saying it since the start of the season. I think he’s got problems with Hector, I think his defending today wasn’t very good at all.”
Bellerin might be motivated to improve but the problem is that the only competition he has right now is Cedric Soares.
The Portuguese right-back signed for Arsenal on a permanent basis during the summer, but the former Southampton man simply isn’t good enough to seriously challenge Bellerin.
And if the ex-Barcelona youth knows his place is secure then what incentive does he have to stamp out these errors?
