Speaking on Nedum Onuoha’s podcast, Alex Iwobi has given his honest view on the way Mesut Ozil left Arsenal.

The German finally departed the Gunners in January after being frozen out of the squad towards the back end of the 2019/20 season.

Iwobi, of course, knows Ozil well from his time at Arsenal, and it seems as though the Nigerian wasn’t impressed by how his former club handled the situation with Ozil.

“Mesut Ozil. His stats speak for themselves, the type of player he is. Unfortunately, the way he left Arsenal wasn’t nice in my opinion, but he’s a great player, a great player,” Iwobi said.

The Everton winger isn’t wrong.

Ozil should have left the London club with a bit of dignity and a legacy to look back on, but sadly, that wasn’t the case.

Ozil left under a cloud of mystery, fans weren’t able to say goodbye to him and the club didn’t give him the send-off he deserved after a number of years of good service.

It’s a real shame that Ozil’s time at the Emirates ended in such a way.
