Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, football agent Christian Emile has been discussing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Tottenham.
The winger is making waves in Serie A at the moment with Napoli. He’s been absolutely electric over in Italy and he’s quickly establishing himself as one of the very best players in Europe.
Tottenham were linked with a move for the Georgian in the past, and according to Emile, their interest in the player was genuine and they could’ve had him for around £20m.
However, while Spurs were fans of ‘Kvaradona’ they didn’t make the move because they didn’t have too much background information on a player plying his trade in an obscure league from an obscure nation.

Spurs wanted Kvaratskhelia
Emile spoke to Romano about the winger.
“There were some clubs also tempted, we heard some rumours about Tottenham for a long time. Tottenham fans every time Kvaratskhelia plays, on social media they’re thinking about that opportunity. I want to ask if it’s true that Tottenham had this possibility or if Juventus had this possibility and if you remember something specific about clubs moving and why it didn’t happen,” Romano asked.
“All of those clubs you mentioned, they were all interested in Kvaratskhelia, all of them. Most of the clubs you heard in the media was true, they were all interested. People saw the quality, but there is a difference between seeing the quality and putting the money down,” Emile said.
“At the time Ruben were asking for 20 million, which now you would say is worth more than that, but clubs were not so secure to spend that 20 million in covid times that they didn’t have much background information about him because he wasn’t coming from Brazil or France.
“If he was Croatian or Serbian he would’ve gone at that time and maybe for more money.”
Missed their chance
Kvaratskhelia may only have been playing in Italy for a few months, but it already feels as though Spurs have missed their chance to sign this player.
Indeed, the winger is now being touted with a move to Liverpool, Manchester City, PSG or Real Madrid, and with all due respect to Spurs, they can’t compete with clubs of that calibre.
This is a young footballer who seems to be headed straight to the very top of this game, and sadly, Spurs passed up on the chance to sign him.
