Although they have the likes of Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min, they do lack the strength in depth required at the very highest level – something that has been highlighted during the extended absence of Erik Lamela.

The pace and direct style of play that the Senegal international would have brought to the Tottenham side could have lifted them to the next level, and would have provided Pochettino with something entirely different to what he currently has at his disposal.
