Is Neil Lennon about to replace Brendan Rodgers at Celtic for the long term?

It looks like Brendan Rodgers is on the brink of leaving Celtic for Leicester City.
Celtic released a statement earlier on Tuesday [official site] revealing that the Northern Irishman has been approached by the Premier League side, who sacked Claude Puel on Sunday.
If and when Rodgers leaves, the Hoops will need a replacement and if rumours are believed, it could be Neil Lennon.
The Daily Record reported today that Celtic were speaking with Lennon, their former manager for four years until 2014.
The 47-year-old is out of work after leaving Hibernian toward the end of last month, but was Lennon always the Bhoys’ preferred replacement for Rodgers?
Back in October, former Celtic attacker Charlie Nicholas revealed to the Scottish edition of The Daily Star [16 October, page 45]: “There are some inside Parkhead who see Neil Lennon as a live candidate to replace Brendan Rodgers when the time comes for him to move on.”
The Record claims that Lennon would only be getting the job on an interim basis, but if Nicholas’s claims are accurate then maybe, just maybe, Peter Lawwell and the board are planning for the long term by hiring him.
