Danny Rose was left out of the Tottenham Hotspur squad again on Saturday as his teammates dropped crucial points against West Bromwich Albion at Wembley.
The Spurs boss caused a stir when he omitted the 27-year-old from his 18 for last weekend’s defeat to Arsenal, and again Rose was missing for the 1-1 draw with the Baggies.
The left-back is likely to be back in the lineup for the midweek trip to Leicester City, with his speed earmarked to help combat the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray.
But Ben Davies endured probably his worst performance of the season against Albion and Rose’s extra attacking pace and quality could have proved useful to breaking them down.
Pochettino does need to be careful with the England international, who has only recently returned from a 10-month injury layoff and played 90 minutes against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
While Davies never lets Spurs down, two-time PFA Team of the Year member Rose is one of the best left-backs in Europe and they need him playing in their toughest games.
At the moment, all Wembley occasions against lower opposition are tough games for Spurs and Rose could have made a big difference getting forward down Albion’s right.
Starting Rose in back-to-back games may have been too much, too soon, but if he had his time again, Pochettino might have chosen to rotate his left-backs in a different cycle.
