When Leeds United signed Ezgjan Alioski from Lugano in the summer, a quick look at his highlights reel and his tally of 17 goals and 14 assists last season suggested the Whites had snagged a bargain.

And when the Macedonia international set up two goals in his first four Championship games and then had a stormer of a game against Nottingham Forest, it seemed he was carrying on where he left off.

The Leeds winger’s goal against Forest was an exciting indication of his talent and it appeared he needed little time settling into his new surroundings.

The problem is: That was as good as it got for Alioski, and some Leeds fans feel he has been dining off that single strike for far too long.

In truth, the 25-year-old has looked out of sorts since returning from the first international break of the season and his performance against Derby County earlier this week was another sign of how far he has fallen.

So was his performance against Forest a blip, rather than the norm, with the Leeds man simply not cut out for Championship football?

He certainly needs to up his game considerably in the weeks ahead if he wants to justify a prolonged starting spot, with plenty of other Leeds players ready to take his place.

The talent is there, as is the work rate, but it has been a while since Leeds fans have seen either and that is worrying for all concerned.
