The Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga remain without a contract extension.
The new NBA season is just a few weeks away, and there is still no agreement in place between the Warriors and Kuminga.
Meanwhile, trade talks involving the Sacramento Kings have continued to circulate, adding another layer of uncertainty.
Sacramento are reportedly interested in Kuminga, but there are still a few things standing in the way of a deal.
Warriors and Kings revisit trade talks for Jonathan Kuminga, Malik Monk’s contract still an issue

One of the scenarios being discussed would see Kuminga heading to Sacramento in exchange for Malik Monk in a sign-and-trade deal.
Kuminga could slot in well alongside Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis in the Kings. On the other hand, the Warriors would add another scoring option in their backcourt.
Trade discussions have picked up again between Golden State and Sacramento, but Monk’s contract is still causing problems, as reported by Sam Amick of The Athletic.
“Several obstacles to a deal remain, most notably the fact that the Warriors’ interest in Monk appears to be quite muted.
“His contract is the primary issue, as he has a player option for the 2027-28 season worth $21.5 million that does not fit with the Warriors’ future flexibility plans,” Amick wrote.
“There are concerns about his fit on the team as well. If they did take him on, team sources said it’s likely Golden State would look to trade him elsewhere.
“The problem with that path, however, is that there’s no clarity as to whether that would be possible anytime soon.”
Jonathan Kuminga’s contract situation will be resolved soon
Kuminga has a deadline of October 1st to accept the Warriors’ $7.9 million qualifying offer for the upcoming season. If accepted, he would become an unrestricted free agent next summer and would have a no-trade clause, ensuring he remains with Golden State for the time being.
If he passes on the qualifying offer, Kuminga can still accept a more lucrative deal the Warriors put forward earlier in the offseason, though it comes with restrictions.
There is also the possibility of a sign-and-trade with Sacramento, but with Golden State hesitant to take on Monk’s contract and questions about flipping it elsewhere, that route does not seem likely.
The Warriors’ stars have publicly supported Kuminga returning, so it will be interesting to see how things develop from here.
