Warren Barton is hoping to see Newcastle sign Steven Gerrard.
Former Newcastle United defender and current pundit Warren Barton has taken to Twitter to suggest that the Magpies should move to sign Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard, 36, has been playing for LA Galaxy for over a year having left Liverpool in the summer of 2015, but he’s now looking for his next club.

The midfielder confirmed earlier this week that he’s leaving LA Galaxy having come to the end of his contract – and that has triggered rumours about where he could be going next.
Bookmakers have been compiling odds on Gerrard’s next club, and – as seen on Oddschecker – three stand out from the crowd; Celtic, Newcastle United and former club Liverpool.
Steven Gerrard in action for England
Celtic and Newcastle are managed by Gerrard’s former Liverpool bosses Brendan Rodgers and Rafael Benitez respectively, whilst a return to Liverpool wouldn’t be a huge surprise as they chase the Premier League title.
The notion of a move to Newcastle is an interesting one though. 292 of Gerrard’s 710 appearances for Liverpool came under Benitez, scoring an impressive 104 goals under the Spaniard whilst winning the FA Cup and Champions League.

Gerrard did though make some intriguing comments about Benitez back in 2015. The former England star claimed to BBC Sport that there was no bond between himself and the Spaniard, even suggesting that Benitez was ‘distant and emotionless’, but it made drove him to try and get compliments from his manager.
Now, former Newcastle defender and FOX Sports pundit Warren Barton has taken to Twitter to react to Gerrard’s exit from LA Galaxy, suggesting that he should head to St. James’ Park and reunite with Benitez, aiding the club’s push for promotion back to the Premier League.
Newcastle fans took to Twitter to respond, with many preferring to focus on the players already at St. James’ Park, unless Gerrard was only heading to Tyneside as a player-coach.
