Neil Warnock has already made four signings since joining the club earlier in the week and it’s the first glimpse of ambition for years from the club.
Neil Warnock has already worked his transfer magic at Cardiff City
Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has wasted no time strengthening his squad despite the transfer window being closed, adding four new names to his team.
Sol Bamba, Maroane Chamakh, Junior Hoilett and Kieran Richardson all joined the club this week on free transfers after being released by their respective clubs over the course of the summer.
The signings may not be the biggest of the decade but the ambition showed by Neil Warnock gives Cardiff City fans real hope for the first time in a long while.
It’s not necessarily all the club’s fault with a real need to tighten the belt around the Cardiff City Stadium thanks to a transfer embargo brought on by the reckless spending of previous management teams, but the fans have missed the sense of ambition.
Kieran Richardson – Cardiff’s most recent signing
Former manager Dave Jones transformed Cardiff into a Championship heavyweight during his time at the club and fans became used to signing big-name payers but he did that without having to splash the cash.
Paul Trollope and Russell Slade didn’t have the cash to splash but they didn’t seem to have the contacts to bring decent players in on the cheap or for free either.
Both of those previous managers worked tirelessly to bring a good standard of players in for next-to-nothing and probably for the most part failed.
Marouane Chamakh also signed for Cardiff City this week
Neil Warnock has been in charge for less than a week and he’s brought in a former England internation, two former Premier League players and an experienced centre-back, and all for free and that’s already brought the buzz back in the fan-base.
There’s already a real belief in the side for the first time in years from the fans and that just shows what a little ambition can do. Sure, it’s been helped by Neil Warnock’s excellent list of contacts but that begs the question as to why someone of his stature wasn’t appointed before?
Neil Warnock or the four free transfers may not be long-term fixes for Cardiff City but the fans are desperate for success in the short-term after a torrid few years, and it comes as a relief that the club have finally recognised that.
Junior Hoilett could be a real coup for Neil Warnock and Cardiff City
