What another stunning performance by Luis Diaz for Liverpool today.
The Colombia international wasn’t among the goals in the Reds’ 1-0 victory away to Newcastle United, which temporarily took them top of the Premier League standings.
But he was a constant thorn for the hosts, it has to be said.
According to WhoScored, Diaz had four shots, five dribbles and created two goalscoring chances for Liverpool throughout the 90 minutes.
For someone who only arrived in English football three months ago, the former Porto attacker, who cost £49 million, continues to look like he’s been a Premier League player for years.
And here’s what former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock said about him today.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It has been a really good game. Newcastle burned themselves out in the first 15 or 20 minutes chasing Liverpool. Liverpool are dominating now. What an addition Luis Diaz has been.”
Unfortunately for Liverpool, they have since been usurped by Manchester City at the summit.
They cruised to a 4-0 victory away to Leeds United tonight to move back top of the Premier League standings.
There is a school of thought which suggests that Liverpool’s January signing of Diaz has given Jurgen Klopp’s outfit an additional dimension in the title race and, honestly, it’s probably accurate.
The Reds are one hell of a football team and with Diaz in attack there’s every chance that the Anfield club could well wind up winning the title, ahead of the Citizens next month.
If he continues to play a role, well that £49 million will continue to look like money very well spent indeed.
