New Leeds United boss Neil Warnock claimed the former QPR ‘keeper was one of the best in the Premier League.
He told Sky Sports News: “I’m so pleased we’ve been able to do it..I think he’s one of the best goalkeepers not just in the Championship..in the Premier League I think he’s one of the best.”
Let’s throw this one out to debate. Warnock clearly rates him, he has signed him at Bury, Sheffield United, QPR, and now Leeds.
The goalkeeper showed on the final game of the season against Manchester City both sides of his game, he is capable of surprising and sometimes incredulous saves, but prone to the odd error too. Warnock told Sky Sports in his defence that Kenny makes fewer than his counterparts.
No disrespect to Kenny, but we would not agree with Warnock’s claims, there are far better goalkeepers around, and there is a reason why he will be playing in the Championship next year, and why QPR have cast him aside for Rob Green, and it is that he is very average at the top level.
We’ve no doubt he will do a very good job at Leeds, and is more than capable, but in our opinion he is not up there with the very best in the Premier League.
Statistically he was the 18th best in the division last year when counting the saves per shots ratio.
Here is a list of our top 10 goalkeepers in the Premier League – and no Paddy Kenny is not on it.
In no particular order…
Petr Cech, Tim Krul, Michel Vorm, Joe Hart, Brad Friedel, Wojciech Szczesny, David de Gea, Pepe Reina, Tim Howard, Ali Al-Habsi. All a rung or several above Kenny on the ladder.
