Neil Warnock has boldly claimed that Arsenal transfer target and France star Antoine Griezmann has been the best player at the World Cup, ahead of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

Coming into the tournament with limited minutes under his belt, the Atletico Madrid attacker was not expected to take the competition by storm.

In fact, many believed after Griezmann’s ill-fated spell at Barcelona that he was past his prime.

However, the 31-year-old, who has been targeted by Mikel Arteta’s side has silenced all his doubters by thriving at the World Cup, and especially as a makeshift No.8.

The injuries to N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba that were initially mooted as factors that could drag France down are no longer a topic of conversation, due to the all-encompassing World Cup winner.

Griezmann’s unrivalled ability at this World Cup to both wreak havoc in the final third as well as being an inescapable defensive presence has been one of the stories of the competition.

According to Neil Warnock, France ace Antoine Griezmann has been the best player at the World Cup, ahead of both Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

“He is the best player at the World Cup, but the other two [Messi and Mbappe] will get the praise because of their ability to just change the game on the flick of a coin”, he told talkSPORT.

“But Griezmann is a manager’s absolute dream. He’s never less than 9 out of 10. He’s tackling, then he’s in the box, organising, he talks, he makes everything look simple.”

“I think the great players do. He’s been my best player at the tournament.”

Warnock certainly raises a number of valid points about Griezmann, who alongside Messi and Mbappe is certainly one of the biggest contenders to win the Golden Ball award at the World Cup.
