Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Douglas Costa from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror.

It has been reported that Costa will cost between £25 million and £30m in transfer fees.

The Express and TEAMtalk have reported of Liverpool’s interest in the 26-year-old winger.

Costa is one of the best wingers in Europe and would be a brilliant signing for Tottenham or Liverpool – in the short term.

The Brazil international has scored four goals and created 33 chances in 20 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern so far this season.

During the 2015-16 campaign, the 26-year-old scored four goals and created 49 chances in 27 league games for the Bavarian giants.

However, Bayern president Uli Hoeness’s comments about Costa made earlier this season should serve as warning for Tottenham and Liverpool regarding the winger’s long-term future.

Following Costa’s claim in February, as reported by The Mirror, that he has had contacts from clubs in China and Europe and that he will think about his future in the summer, Bayern president Hoeness strongly criticised him.

“We got some strong offers from China and also from big clubs from Europe,” The Mirror quoted Costa as saying. “When the season is over, we will sit down and analyse everything.”

“This is only desperate attempt to get a higher salary,” The Mirror quoted Hoeness as saying in response to Costa’s comments in February. “That doesn’t work with us. He can try 10 more times. He is certainly not a social case.”

Bayern and Hoeness seem to be playing hardball over a new contract, and given that Costa joined the Bundesliga outfit only in the summer of 2015, their stance makes sense.

Moreover, the Brazil international’s current contract with Bayern runs out in June 2020, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk. It does not make sense for the European giants to hand him a new deal right now.

Tottenham and Liverpool should be warned. If Costa is already thinking about his future at Bayern, one of the biggest and most successful clubs in Europe, less than two years after joining, he could do something similar at White Hart Lane or Anfield.
