‘Warms me heart’: Some Everton fans react to ex-player spotted in training

Everton fans on Twitter were delighted to see Leighton Baines in training this week ahead of their Sunday clash with West Brom.

After retiring from football towards the back end of last season, Baines has now been given the role of ‘Professional Development Coach’ at Finch Farm.

But that hasn’t stopped him from seeing his old teammates, who aside from a blip in recent matches, have started the season in a strong fashion.

Some Everton fans joked that he should be helping his old pals learn how to cross a ball because the set-piece specialist was a master of it during his days.

Whilst the Toffees supporters dearly miss their left-footed fan favourite, they have done well to find a seriously good replacement in Lucas Digne.

He seems to be the French version of Baines, but with more pace to his game and, just like the Englishman, quality delivery from the flanks.

If Digne can follow the road Baines went on during his career at Goodison Park then his status will rise even further than where it already is.
