Southampton are in the midst of a fine run of form, and have gone unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions.
James Ward-Prowse in action
In an interview with the official club website, Southampton youngster James Ward-Prowse has explained how he and his team-mates are adapting to the methods being implemented at St Mary’s by Claude Puel, and how they differ from Ronald Koeman’s philosophy.
The 21-year-old has been with the Saints for the entirety of his career, following the likes of Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain through the academy into the first team.
Speaking to southamptonfc.com, Ward-Prowse highlighted Puel’s direct influence on training sessions as something that the players are becoming accustomed to:

“I think it is a lot more possession based. We look to have more of the ball and the way we press is slightly different so it’s a case of working on that in training and putting that into practice in the matches. He is always stopping training and giving you advice. With the possession element too as a midfielder it does mean you will probably see more of the ball, which is good. He joins in during training and has scored a few goals which is always good to see. Often it ends up with the team he isn’t on, winning the games in training!”
Ward-Browse has made eight appearances for the Saints this term, chipping in with a goal and an assist, as he continues his development at St Mary’s.

With just one Premier League start under his belt this season, however, he will certainly be looking to be involved more as the campaign goes on, as he has now reached the age where regular first-team football becomes an essential part of a player’s development.
Next up for Southampton is a home game against Burnley on October 16th.
