The expectations have been growing around Ibrox this summer.
Rangers boss Mark Warburton says that he hopes supporters understand the effort in going towards bringing the club back to where it used to be amid increased expectations, The Evening Times report.
The Gers support has been excellent as the club have bounced back from their controversial demotion to the fourth tier of Scottish football four years ago to a place back in the Scottish Premiership.
It has been quite a journey for the Ibrox club, and now that Warburton’s men are back in the top flight, they don’t want to stop just there with the Scottish Premiership title very much the goal.
However, dethroning Old Firm rivas Celtic won’t be easy, and the process could be a lengthy and painful one.
Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Hamilton, Warburton pleaded for patience as he suggests the demands and expectations from the crowd are evident and perhaps in some cases a little unrealistic.
“The funny thing is, I watched the Burnley game three times – twice on Saturday night and once on Sunday,” he told The Evening Times.
“I watched the game with no sound and it was a completely different game. You watch it and you think we were really, really poor in the first half, much better in the second.
“When I watched it back with no sound I thought: ‘Hmmm….’. You realise the fans’ expectations and their demands.
“We understand them but we hope also they understand the effort going in to take the club back to where it used to be.”
Rangers head in to the season rightfully regarded as a title challenger, but Old Firm rivals Celtic undoubtedly have the advantage right now and they haven’t been shy in investing in quality players this summer.
While most at Ibrox will be rather hopeful of a good season, progress is very much the main aim and the supporters with the right backing could play a huge part over the next 12 months.
