Rangers boss Mark Warburton has discussed the club’s
Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told the Daily Record that Gedion Zelalem will be staying at Ibrox – and stated he will continue to look at trialists and loan players.
The Gers had won 11 games in a row to kick off the Scottish Championship season, but have now picked up just eight points in the last six games, with Hibernian now moving level on points at the top of the table.
On Monday, Warburton’s men take on Hibernian at Ibrox in a crucial top of the table clash, but many fans are looking for new signings in January.
Even after bringing in the likes of Wes Foderingham, James Tavernier, Rob Kiernan, Danny Wilson, Gedion Zelalem, Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, Nathan Oduwa and Martyn Waghorn, it’s clear that Rangers still need some new additions to help them in their promotion bid.
Recent reports from The Scottish Sun have revealed that goalkeeper Maciej Gostomski, striker Vladislavs Gutkovskis and winger Mekhi Leacock-McLeod were all on trial at Ibrox with a view to permanent deals.
Now, Warburton has told the Daily Record that he will continue to bring in trialists to see whether they can held Rangers long-term.
“We’ve got a number of trialists, some we bring in, some we just look at,” said Warburton. “The agents do their work and this is their feeding time, so to speak, we have to liaise with agents and make sure it represents value for us, financially on and off the pitch.”
“The loan market? Yes, and it’s not always Arsenal and Spurs. It’s great that I’m London-based and have relationships with those clubs but if the right player is available then absolutely, it’s an important part of the market,” he continued.
Warburton also added that Arsenal midfielder Zelalem, who is on loan until January, will be staying at Ibrox for an extended period after talks with the Gunners.
“Gedion is staying with us. We talked to Arsenal, that’s an on-going process. It’s about us creating an environment here where clubs of that stature trust us with their players. That’s important medically, nutritionally, training wise, home time, experience and their players will go back to heir clubs better, as better individuals on and off the pitch.”
“If we can get a reputations for that, then great. It’s important to develop those links and build them. They can be spoiled very quickly, so it’s an on-going process to be better every day,” he added.
