Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told The Scottish Sun that he feels Harry Forrester has been ‘below his level’ in training this season, but was delighted with his goal against Dundee.

Rangers picked up a 1-0 win over Dundee on Sunday, but were made to work very hard for the three points as Paul Hartley’s men frustrated the Gers before Forrester’s flick header from Joe Dodoo’s cross broke their hearts in injury time.

It was a much-needed three points for manager Mark Warburton, and also a much-needed performance from Forrester, who hasn’t had the desired impact this season.

The 25-year-old was signed by Warburton in January having worked together at both Watford and Brentford, and with five goals in 16 games for the Gers in the second half of last season, Forrester certainly impressed, and earned a contract extension over the summer.

However, Forrester has been in and out of the side this season, starting just one league game since the end of September as he fell down the pecking order at Ibrox.

On Saturday, the midfielder came off the bench with less than 15 minutes to play, but made his moment count as he grabbed the dramatic winner, and reminded Warburton just what he can do when given the chance.

After Saturday’s game, manager Warburton spoke to The Scottish Sun, and suggested that even Forrester himself will admit that his performances in training haven’t been good enough over the season.

Warburton added that Forrester has picked up his levels in training in the last couple of weeks, and he’s ‘delighted’ that the playmaker proved to be the matchwinner for Rangers.

“Harry will admit himself that he has been below his level in training,” said Warburton. “He’s picked it up over the last couple of weeks and today he got his goal. I’m delighted for him,” he added.
