Rangers manager Mark Warburton has commented on Emerson Hyndman’s arrival at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told the club’s official website that he does see similarities between new signing Emerson Hyndman and former loanee Gedion Zelalem.

With Warburton desperately searching for a new midfielder following the departure of Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar’s season-ending injury, Rangers swooped to land Hyndman on Monday.

The 20-year-old American joins from Premier League side Bournemouth until the end of the season, with Cherries boss Eddie Howe keen to see Hyndman get out and play regular first-team football.

Hyndman, who has two caps for the United States to his name, joined Bournemouth from Fulham over the summer, has started just one game for the Cherries this term, and that came in last weekend’s 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Millwall.

By moving to Rangers, Hyndman not only stands to play regularly under Warburton, but also continues a tradition of American players heading to Ibrox.

Carlos Bocanegra, Claudio Reyna, DaMarcus Beasley, Maurice Edu and Alejandro Bedoya have all turned out for Rangers in recent years, whilst Gedion Zelalem is the most recent American to play for the club.

Like Hyndman, Arsenal talent Zelalem is a young American midfielder who was sent to Ibrox from the Premier League in order to gain experience, and the pair even play together for the United States Under-23’s.

Now, Rangers boss Warburton has told the club’s official website that he does think Hyndman and Zelalem are similar players, as they are good on the ball and possess great vision, so he can’t wait to see Hyndman in action for Rangers – and believes he will bring something to the Rangers squad.

“Yeah, both are very good ball players, both see the picture early and both have a wonderful array of skills and a silky first touch as well,” said Warburton. “So I’m looking forward to seeing Emerson play and he knows the challenge.

“No one walks in and there are no guarantees ever to anyone about the shirt, but he is hungry to come here and chatting to him last night I’m very pleased with his responses. He’s excited, he’s a young player coming to a club of this stature so you should be excited, and I’m sure he will add value to the squad,” he added.
