Many people were full of praise for Tottenham Hotspur’s comeback against Manchester City, despite the fact they only managed to pick up a point. However, whilst they may have lost ground in the title race, they still managed to provide optimism for fans going forward in what is sure to be a tense second half of the season.
One of the shining lights of that optimism is Victor Wanyama, as the midfielder put in yet another world class display at the Etihad Stadium to add to his collection. With 61 touches, five tackles and an 82% passing accuracy his impact was felt throughout the pitch and he was a driving force behind the team edging their way back into the clash.
Since arriving at White Hart Lane the 25-year-old’s impact has been felt, with his ability in aerial duels combined with his tackling prowess being two of the many reasons that he’s so highly valued at the club. With so much focus on the stars at Spurs, a lot of the time Wanyama’s impact is brushed to the side because he’s just always playing as such a consistently high level.

The Kenyan international’s performance against City saw him drop back into defence after Toby Alderweireld’s injury, forming a makeshift partnership with fellow defensive midfielder Eric Dier. It didn’t faze the 25-year-old though, and he continued his impressive performance as the visitors held on for a draw.
Some people were cautious as to whether or not he could handle the pressure of stepping up to a level like Tottenham, but he’s passed the test with flying colours. If he’s able to get his discipline under control, with six yellow cards to his name in just 22 league appearances, Spurs will have one of the best central midfielders in the league on their hands.
