Ivan Modia Yanez, the Spurs midfielder’s agent, says “there is no chance” his client will leave this month amid reported interest from Roma.

The agent of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has told a Roma news site – the Serie A side having been linked with the player – that his client will not be leaving the Premier League club in January.

In December, the Daily Mail reported that the midfielder was one of several players earmarked for a departure by Spurs in the winter transfer window.

The report claimed that Wanyama does not want to leave Tottenham but suggested that his recent injury record had a part to play in the club’s alleged decision in wanting to part ways.

However, Spurs assistant manager Jesus Perez spoke to Football.London earlier this week and stated that the Kenya international had been progressing well in his return from injury.

Now, La Roma 24 has published an exclusive story quoting Ivan Modia Yanez, Wanyama’s agent, as saying: “There is no chance that Victor will leave Tottenham in January. Then we’ll see. I have not had any contact with [Roma Director of Football] Monchi.”

Between a club coach giving an optimistic interview regarding Wanyama’s injury progress – which in itself is not indicative of the player’s transfer status but still suggests that he is still in the coaches’ thoughts – and the player’s agent saying outright that his client won’t leave, it seems to paint a positive picture regarding his future at Spurs.

However, with the 27-year-old having played just 358 minutes of football all season – according to Transfermarkt – is there a chance he can regain a first-team spot permanently when he’s back, and what could it mean for his future beyond the end of the campaign?
