The Kenyan followed his former Southampton boss to White Hart Lane.

Tottenham's Victor Wanyama warms up before the match

Victor Wanyama has explained in FourFourTwo’s November edition how father figure Mauricio Pochettino was able to lure him to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of other clubs.

Wanyama reunited with his former Southampton manager at White Hart Lane in the summer, despite Ronald Koeman’s Everton (Daily Record) and Premier League champions Leicester City (Daily Star) also linked.

And the Kenyan has proved an instant hit in north London, helping Spurs to second in the table and in a favourable position to qualify from the Champions League group stage.

So far, everything is going just as Poch promised it would do.

“I had a few options but he was able to convince me to come here because I had worked with him before and know he is a manager who will improve players,” Wanyama told FourFourTwo.

“Also, the club is in the Champions League and has the chance to do well in the Premier League, too.

“He said to me that I should come and try to achieve some things with this club and that they could win trophies.”

Wanyama has missed just 35 minutes of league football all season and scored his only goal for Spurs in August’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace.

Despite missing out on the 25-year-old’s signature, both Everton and Leicester were able to add to their midfield ranks during the summer transfer window.

Idrissa Gueye has proved an inspired signing for the Toffees, while Nampalys Mendy has endured a slow start to life at the King Power Stadium.
