Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffSide that Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita wants to understand how important he will be for manager Jurgen Klopp before signing a new contract.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Liverpool are in talks with Keita’s camp over a new deal.
The 27-year-old £130,000-a-week (SalarySport) Guinea international midfielder is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season.
Romano said: “There are ongoing contacts between Naby Keita’s camp and Liverpool to decide about the future.
“There’s been a lot of interest around him for a long time but no official bids.
“Talks with Liverpool will continue, Keita wants to understand how important he’ll be for Klopp in the future before making his final decision.”

Should Naby Keita sign new Liverpool contract?
In our opinion, Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita should not sign a new contract with the Reds.
Yes, the midfielder has struggled with injury problems during his time at Liverpool, but he has not really been given a run of games when he has been fit.
Now, we can understand that.
After all, Liverpool have a number of quality midfielders, and it is not easy for manager Jurgen Klopp to give regular playing time to all of them.
It is unlikely that things will change for Keita anytime soon, so we think that if he has the chance to join a club next summer where he would play regularly, then he should take it.
