Aston Villa fans on Twitter were impressed with Jota’s performance from the bench as Dean Smith’s side recorded a 3-1 win over Burton in the League Cup.
Jota, 29, came close to scoring on one occasion when his first-time left-footed shot from long range just sailed over the crossbar.
The Spanish playmaker looked lively in the final third for the brief time he was on the pitch and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
He wasn’t a regular for Villa last season, with injuries and a lack of form playing their part in him bring a bit-part player – he joined the club last summer.
Smith went for a strong side against the League One outfit, with first-team players such as Jack Grealish, Tyrone Mings and new boy Ollie Watkins all starting.
Equally, players who seemingly have something to prove, in the likes of Henri Lansbury, Anwar El Ghazi and Marvelous Nakamba also started.

This was Villa’s first competitive game of the new season and they will now prepare for their Premier League opener against Sheffield United next Monday.
Whilst Jota looked impressive, he may find himself on the bench again for the next fixture, as the Villa fans were discussing what will happen to him this term.
