Thomas Tuchel isn’t a happy man ahead of Chelsea’s crucial home clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
After Chelsea conceded a stoppage-time equalising goal to Brighton on Wednesday evening, Tuchel suggested that it’s ‘stupid’ to suggest they are in the Premier League title race, as he told BBC Sport.
The German was referencing his team having to deal with injury and COVID issues that are hampering his chances of playing his strongest squad.
Well, come the weekend, it’s only the small matter of the London club facing off against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge and some Reds supporters fear he might try and get the game postponed.
There have been many previous occasions when Jurgen Klopp has had a moan about fixture schedules or COVID-related issues that aren’t helping his squad.
Liverpool fans have pointed out that if Klopp made similar comments to his fellow countryman, then there would be more noise and criticism coming his way.
There are some that just aren’t having what Tuchel has had to say because, against Brighton, he had Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante, Saul Niguez, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Ross Barkley, to name a few on his bench.
That’s a serious array of talent, experience and international experience at his disposal.
Not only that, many of those players would walk into a Brighton team that had two of their key players missing yesterday in Lewis Dunk and Leandro Trossard.
Either way, with both Chelsea and Liverpool dropping points in the title race ahead of this Sunday, it makes their showdown even more important because Manchester City are eight points clear at the top.
And, for some, it seems as though the excuses are coming out already.
Here is a selection of Liverpool fans reacting to what they are hearing from the Chelsea camp:
