Mark Lawrenson has praised Steven Gerrard for how he has handled ‘modern day’ players during his time as Rangers boss and previously working with the Liverpool youngsters, as he told BBC Sport.
The Liverpool legend claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos ‘wanted to leave Ibrox’ but Gerrard dealt with his situation ‘brilliantly’.
Added with that, the former centre-back also noted how he showed Liverpool’s thriving star, Curtis Jones, some ‘tough love’ during his days at the academy and how that has had a ‘massive impact’ on his game.
There weren’t just celebrations on one side of Glasgow when Rangers were crowned champions on Sunday, but those from Anfield were also thrilled to see their club legend achieve glory.
There has been a lot of talk about Gerrard being Liverpool manager one day, as Lawrenson touched upon his man-management skills.
“As a manager, it comes down to the fundamentals of how you handle modern players and your recruitment,” said Lawrenson
“You can see Steven’s talent for that when you look at how he has dealt with Alfredo Morelos.
“The striker looked like he wanted to leave Rangers and Steven and the club have dealt with it brilliantly and got him playing well again.
“If you ask someone like Curtis Jones at Liverpool, he will say that Steven had a massive impact on him while coaching the under-19s. He gave him a lot of tough love.”

It does seem as though the road is set for Gerrard to be heading towards Anfield Way, one day.
At this moment in time, the former midfielder is still bulking up his now-legendary status at Ibrox, but that Liverpool job just seems inevitable now.
Chelsea handed their own club legend, Frank Lampard, the managerial hot seat, and whilst he was sacked, Gerrard has already achieved more than his former partner in crime, and they are less ruthless on Merseyside than in West London.
