The Sheffield United striker is said to be interesting the Blades’ promotion rivals Aston Villa.

Leon Clarke has told the Sun newspaper he’s spoken to Sheffield United regarding a new contract, following alleged interest from Aston Villa.
Clarke’s nine goals throughout November have seen him soar top of the Championship‘s scorers chart, and claim the division’s player of the month award.
As a result, it was reported last week that the Blades’ promotion rivals Aston Villa are looking into a January deal for the 32-year-old, as they seek cover for the injured Jonathan Kodjia.

However, when questioned about the speculation by BBC Radio Sheffield afterwards, Clarke’s manager Chris Wilder suggested that a new contract could be forthcoming.
“I don’t think it’s warding off [potential suitors], I think we’re looking at all the players as we have done with Jack (O’Connell), with David Brooks,” said the Sheffield United manager. “These aren’t to ward off, these are to reward as well.
“To reward David for his performances, to reward John Fleck and Jack as well, and we will (continue to) do (that) along the way, and obviously Leon definitely comes into that category.”
And according to Clarke, the wheels are already in motion to keep him at Bramall Lane.

“I feel very much at home under Chris Wilder and playing with the lads at Sheffield United, to the extent we have started talking about extending my deal here,” said the Blades’ number 9 in an interview published on page 2 the Sun’s Goals pullout on Friday.
“I’ve got 18 months to go but it would be nice to think I could finish my career here, or at least play here in the Premier League.”
Clarke is expected to start for Sheffield United against Bristol City on Friday, with the winner going three points clear of the other, in third position.
The loser could slip as far down as sixth in the standings, should Aston Villa and Derby County win their fixtures on Saturday.
