The Spanish midfielder spent the 2015-16 season on loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Sheffield Wednesday loan star, Alex Lopez, has signed for Brisbane Roar, subject to passing a medical, the Australians have announced.

Lopez was linked with a move Down Under earlier this month, as reported by HITC Sport, and the Spanish midfielder has now linked up with the Roar for the 2018-19 season.

Lopez played 24 times for Sheffield Wednesday en route to the 2016 Championship play-off final, but often struggled for fitness in subsequent spells with Real Valladolid and Sporting Gijon.

At the time of his release by Sporting earlier this year, several Wednesday supporters begged for the 30-year-old’s return on Twitter.

But the Owls, who we now know to have been under a transfer embargo, have since signed Josh Onomah, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, on loan until the end of the season.

Some Sheffield Wednesday fans have nevertheless wished Lopez luck in his new venture.
