Rangers have been pursuing winger Jamie Walker in 2017.
Rangers finally have some direction heading into the January transfer window, having confirmed that caretaker boss Graeme Murty will be taking charge of the club until the end of the season.
The Gers sacked former manager Pedro Caixinha back in October, and after being rejected by Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, they have now handed Murty the reins until the end of the season.
Murty will now work with Rangers director of football Mark Allen in order to find suitable transfer targets, and the time may be right for the Gers to finally land one of Caixinha’s targets.
Rangers attempted to snap up Hearts winger Jamie Walker with two separate bids over the summer (BBC Sport), with Hearts standing firm and refusing to sell to the Gers.
Walker, 24, hit 15 goals in all competitions last season, and is almost certainly leaving Tynecastle given that his contract expires at the end of the campaign, with Rangers surely still interested.
The wide man may have only notched two goals this season, but he remains one of the most talented players in the Scottish Premiership outside of the Old Firm teams, and Rangers must take their opportunity to finally sign him in 2018.
Whether that’s making a bid to purchase him in January or waiting until his contract runs down in the summer, Rangers desperately need another winger, with Walker fitting the bill.
The man who wanted Walker – Caixinha – may never get to work with the Scot, but Rangers should be looking to ensure that he still turns out for the Ibrox club even after their failed summer pursuit.
