Wanted by Everton in 2016, Koeman would surely love to have Spurs ace Son Heung-min now

Tottenham Hotspur wide man Son Heung-min was linked with Everton last season.

Everton’s struggles this season continue having only managed to pick up a 1-1 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.

The Toffees’ record this season now stands at just two wins in eight Premier League games this season, picking up just two wins as the pressure mounts on Ronald Koeman.

Everton’s disappointing start to the season has been all the more frustrating given the huge financial outlay over the summer, after Koeman was given the funds to bring in the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Wayne Rooney and club-record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson.

However, Everton desperately lack pace in the final third, and given his bit-part role this season, the Toffees may wish they had managed to secure a deal for Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min.

As reported by Bild in August 2016, Everton were attempting to rival Leicester City and Wolfsburg for the signature of Son, but Tottenham decided to keep hold of him in the end.

The 25-year-old South Korean international, who joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015, had been hit-and-miss in his first season with Tottenham, but after Everton missed out on him in 2016, he went on to notch 14 goals and six assists in the Premier League last season.

This term, Son has started just three Premier League games, and two of those came in an unfamiliar wing back role, as he again has to make do with being the quiet, versatile and often productive unsung hero for Mauricio Pochettino.

Yet, Son could have been ideal for Everton. Not only does Son possess the pace that Everton are lacking, but he can go either way when faced up by a defender, offering drive and a major goal threat – two things the Toffees are lacking right now.

In truth, Everton should maybe consider a new move in January if Son isn’t a regular starter for Spurs, but given his ability in the final third as well as his hard work off the ball, Koeman may wish he had Son at his disposal right now to boost his flagging Everton side.
