Manuel Lanzini has told West Ham TV he believes it is ‘important’ for the Hammers to win or at least reach the final of a major competition this year to reward the club’s supporters.
The Irons are entering a crucial few weeks of their season to determine if silverware will be a possibility. David Moyes takes the London Stadium natives to Southampton in the FA Cup fifth-round on Wednesday night, before visiting Sevilla in the Europa League next Thursday.
West Ham also face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday while they strive to secure Champions League qualification. The Hammers sit fifth in the Premier League table after 27 games with a two-point deficit to Manchester United. But Arsenal and Tottenham hold games in hand.
West Ham have not finished a top-flight season in the top-four places since 1985/86 when they ended the term third. They have also not won a major competition since lifting their third FA Cup honour in 1980. The Irons have finished as runners-up just once since in 2006.

Lanzini hopes Moyes’ men can at least reach the FA Cup or Europa League final this season to reward West Ham’s fans. The Argentine is desperate to cap his seventh campaign in east London with a title and believes silverware is not out of the realms of possibility this term.
“Every game is tough,” Lanzini said. “But we know we need to play, we need to focus on our football, and if we can focus on our football, we can achieve the win.
“Seven-years is a long time and it’s like my second home here. I want to try to win something or try to get to the final of a competition. It’s that important for us, for the club and also for the fans.”
Lanzini completed a £9m permanent transfer to West Ham in March 2016 following a year on loan from Al Jazira. Featuring at Southampton in the FA Cup would be the 29-year-old’s 188th appearance for the Irons in all competitions. He has offered 28 goals and 26 assists.
