Real Valladolid are keen to keep Sandro Ramirez from Everton beyond his initial loan spell, head coach Sergio Gonzalez has told Jorna da Perfecta.
While the former Spain U21 international might have not managed to rediscover the clinical touch that convinced The Toffees to bring him to Goodison Park three years ago, the 2019/20 campaign has been one of recovery for Sandro.
Not only did he bring a merciful end to that remarkable 52-game, two-year goalscoring drought, he has also looked sharp and rejuvenated again at a Valladolid side who look well placed to avoid the drop from La Liga.
It is no surprise, then, that Valladolid have no plans to bid farewell to the one-time Barcelona starlet any time soon.
“All the loanees are at our disposal from July 1 onwards, with the exception of Sandro,” Gonzalez says with the speedy forward due to return to Merseyside this week.
“We have to wait until the last minute to see how it is solved. I know they are working on it because we want him to be with us.
“But Everton is the one who decides.”
Valladolid, who are owned these days by Real Madrid and Brazil legend Ronaldo, have made no secret of their desire to offer Sandro a permanent deal this summer with just one year remaining on his Everton contract.
Director Miguel Angel Gomez told Cadena Ser a month ago that the Premier League outfit are demanding £5 million.
Though, as AS points out, Sandro would have to accept a vast reduction on his £65,000-a-week wages to make the deal happen.
